Ice climbing

Winter ice climbing in the High Tatras. In the High Tatras there are several locations suitable for ice climbing such as the Veľká and Malá studená valley, Velicka valley or Tisovky in the Bielovodská valley. Most of the ice climbs are 2 to 3 rope pitches.

Difficulty:

  • Climbing is not suitable for beginners
  • Very good fitness and climbing coordination required
  • Difficulty of ascent is up to WI4

Equipment needed:

  • winter climbing boots
  • ice climbing crampons
  • technical ice climbing axes
  • backpack with the possibility to carry the ice axes
  • helmet
  • harness
  • belay device for double rope
  • personal anchor
  • thermal underwear
  • winter climbing clothing
  • winter gloves, hat, buff
  • food and drink 1,5 l/person
  • light down jacket or spare sweatshirt (polartec or merino)

What’s included:

  • guiding with a UIAGM mountain guide (the mountain guide has third party insurance and a valid UIAGM membership)
  • photos from the exit (with mobile phone)
  • good mood and individual approach of the guide:)
