Ascent to the Ľadový peak 2627m

The Ľadový peak is the third highest peak of the High Tatras and the highest peak in their main ridge of Tatras. Its massif is the dominant feature of the High Tatras and the view from its summit covers the entire panorama of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The ascent to its summit begins at Hrebienok via Téry’s hut below the foot of the mountain. It continues by ascending to the Ľadová priehyba saddle and over the Ľadový horse ridge to the summit. From the summit it is possible to continue via the Malý Ľadový peak to Sedielko saddle. Or descend the same way down.

Description

Duration of the tour to the Ľadový peak:

  • Option 1 day, ascent starts early in the morning in Stary Smokovec with return back to the same place. Very good fitness is required for this variant.
  • 2 days variant, those interested can accommodate one day in advance at Téry’s hut. Early the next morning is a meeting with the mountain guide at the hut and the climb itself. The ascent can be completed again at the chalet or down in Stary Smokovec

Route options:

  • Traverse of the Ladový peak from Sedielko saddle over the Malý Ľadový peak and then along the ridge to the Ľadový peak, descent via the Ľadový kôň route.
  • Ascent to the Ľadový peak via the Ľadový horse ridge and descent via the same route

Equipment needed:

  • mountaineering boots (vibram sole)
  • backpack
  • waterproof clothing for the mountains
  • gloves
  • hat
  • food and drink 1,5 l/person
  • spare sweatshirt (polartec or merino)
  • magnesium or lump salt against cramps
  • list of mandatory equipment

Climb to the Ľadový peak price includes:

  • guiding by a UIAGM mountain guide (the mountain guide has third party insurance and valid UIAGM membership)
  • necessary technical material for climbing
  • rental of basic mountaineering equipment (helmet, harness, crampons, ice axe)
  • photos from the tour
  • good mood and individual approach of the guide 🙂

What is not included:

  • lift to Hrebienok
  • accommodation and meals at Téry’s hut
  • individual insurance

Season:

  • summer season (1.6. – 31.10.) or winter season (15.12.-15.4.)
  • it is necessary to book in advance a specific date in a given season according to the booking calendar
