Winter climbing

The Tatra peaks are beautiful not only in summer but also in winter. Winter can create amazing conditions for climbing ice and grass mixes. Winter climbs are suitable for more advanced and hard climbers. If you want to experience the true mountaineering adventure then winter climbing is for you.

Description

Climb length:

  • 6-8 hours depending on route

Winter climbing tours to choose from:

  • Tupá peak
  • Vysoká peak
  • Slavkovský tower
  • Slavkovský peak
  • Malý Kežmarský peak
  • Stredohrot peak
  • Ľadový peak

Difficulty:

  • Climbing is not suitable for beginners
  • Very good fitness and climbing coordination required
  • Difficulty of ascent is up to M5

Equipment needed:

  • winter climbing boots
  • crampons
  • technical ice axes
  • backpack with the possibility to carry ice axes
  • helmet
  • harness
  • belay device for double rope
  • personal anchor sling
  • thermal underwear
  • winter climbing clothing
  • winter gloves, hat, buff
  • food and drink 1,5 l/person
  • light down jacket or spare sweatshirt (polartec or merino)

What’s included:

  • guiding with a UIAGM mountain guide (the mountain guide has third party insurance and a valid UIAGM membership)
  • photos from the tour (with mobile phone)
  • A smile on the guide’s face and a pleasant comfort during the ascent 🙂

What is not included:

  • transport
